Death Tarot Meaning
Upright Keywords: Definitive Ending · Metamorphosis · Closing a Chapter · Rebirth
Reversed Keywords: Clinging to the Past · Fear of Letting Go · Stagnation
A skeleton in black armor rides a pale horse carrying a black flag with a five-petaled white rose, while the sun rises between two towers on the horizon.
Death Upright
When Death appears upright, it marks a major archetypal threshold governed by Scorpio: definitive ending, metamorphosis, closing a chapter, rebirth. Rather than a passing mood, this card signals a structural shift in how you and the other person relate to truth and desire.
Death Reversed
When Death appears reversed, the energy turns inward or resists its natural movement—manifesting as clinging to the past, fear of letting go, stagnation. Notice where fear or pride is blocking the next honest step.
What They Feel When Death Appears
The old version of this dynamic is over. Either the relationship ends completely or it must be reborn on entirely different terms.
Death for Getting Back Together
Going back to how things used to be is impossible; only a total reset after real closure could ever work.
