The Hermit Tarot Meaning
Upright Keywords: Solitude · Soul-Searching · Stepping Back · Inner Clarity
Reversed Keywords: Loneliness · Stonewalling · Fear of Intimacy
An elder stands alone atop a snow-covered peak at night, holding up a lantern containing a six-pointed star while looking downward in quiet reflection.
The Hermit Upright
When The Hermit appears upright, it marks a major archetypal threshold governed by Virgo: solitude, soul-searching, stepping back, inner clarity. Rather than a passing mood, this card signals a structural shift in how you and the other person relate to truth and desire.
The Hermit Reversed
When The Hermit appears reversed, the energy turns inward or resists its natural movement—manifesting as loneliness, stonewalling, fear of intimacy. Notice where fear or pride is blocking the next honest step.
What They Feel When The Hermit Appears
They are pulling inward right now—not necessarily because of someone else, but because they feel overwhelmed and need space to figure out what they want.
The Hermit for Getting Back Together
Not an immediate reunion card; a period of quiet no-contact is required before either of you has clarity.
